Peters v. Mesa Verde ICE Detention Center
On April 29, 2025 we filed a habeas petition on behalf of Prince Peters, a refugee from Liberia who has been detained in ICE custody for over five years without a bond hearing, despite his long-standing eligibility for relief from removal that the immigration judge failed to inform him of. He is currently detained at the Mesa Verde ICE Processing Center. LCCRSF is now seeking court intervention to address this prolonged injustice.
During his detention, Mr. Peters has faced harsh treatment and has been transferred between at least seven facilities, including Golden State Annex, where LCCRSF has been investigating broader reports of violence, neglect, and retaliation.
Mr Peters’ detention has become punitive due to the sheer length of confinement. Without this court intervention, his now five-year civil detention will continue.
