Alex joined LCCRSF as Staff Attorney in the Racial Justice Team in September 2023. Before joining LCCRSF, Alex served as a law fellow at Altshuler Berzon, a plaintiffs-side labor and employment law firm in San Francisco. From 2020-2022, she worked on behalf of the NAACP Office of General Counsel on a range of racial justice issues, including crime-free housing ordinances, prison conditions during the COVID-19 pandemic, and voting rights. Alex received her PhD in Political Science from University of California, Irvine and her JD from Case Western Reserve University School of Law. She has served as an adjunct professor at California State University, Long Beach since 2018, teaching courses in public policy, international studies, and sociology.
A published political scientist and critical race scholar, Alex’s most recent publication “We Can’t Breathe: Reimagining Equal Protection as a Collective Right” critically examines how the US Constitution continues to fail Black Americans seeking relief from state-sponsored police violence.
Alex lives in the Bay Area with her two cats, Kemba and Shabazz.
