Staff Attorney, Economic Justice

Bismah Jaffer joined Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights in February 2022 as a Staff Attorney on the Economic Justice team. She is committed to a career in social and racial justice advocacy with a desire to empower communities of color. She has experience in various public interest fields which helped her gain wide legal knowledge to better serve her community. She has interned at Legal Services for Children, Disability Rights and Education Defense Fund, Eviction Defense Collaborative, and the Self-Help Center at the Superior Court of the Santa Clara County.

Bismah is a graduate from UC Hastings and is licensed to practice law in California. In law school, she was a member of the nationally ranked Moot Court team and the Hasting’s Race and Poverty Law Journal. She graduated from San Jose State University as a Dean’s Scholar and received Honors in Political Science with a minor in Human Rights.

She is proud to be using her legal education to serve her home, the Bay Area. In her free time, Bismah enjoys reading fiction, dabbling in film photography, and learning more about how to use her legal education to dismantle prisons in the United States.
