Civil Rights Group Welcomes San Francisco’s Exploration of Public Banking
Renews call for SF public bank in light of new City Treasurer report
SAN FRANCISCO —The Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area (LCCR) issued an official response letter providing critical feedback on the Municipal Bank Feasibility Task Force Report released today by the City Treasurer’s office.
“We’re glad to see the City officially begin the conversation about bringing public banking to San Francisco and ending our reliance on unaccountable Wall Street banks,” said Sushil Jacob, senior economic justice staff attorney with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. “While we question some of the assumptions underlying the report’s financial models, we encourage the City take the next step and develop a business plan for San Francisco’s Public Bank.”
