A legal advocacy group has filed a federal civil rights complaint on behalf of a five-year-old boy who was allegedly kicked out of a Belmont parochial school because of his hair style.
The complaint filed by the Lawyers Committee for Civil Rights alleges racial discrimination against five-year-old Jalyn Broussard.
The boy’s mother says the principal of Immaculate Heart of Mary School summoned her in December to take her son home because of his new fade haircut, short on the sides and long on top, might be a distraction to other students.
However, Mariana Broussard claims her son is the victim of discrimination because she says she saw Asian and white students with the same hairstyle as her son at the school.
The archdiocese hasn’t commented on the complaint.
