Mission

Founded in 1968 to bring the civil rights movement from the streets into the courts, the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area works to advance, protect, and promote the legal rights of marginalized communities and low‑income people, including immigrants and refugees. By leveraging the pro bono support of more than 1,600 private attorneys, LCCRSF provides free legal assistance through direct services, impact litigation, and policy advocacy—multiplying its reach and creating lasting, systemic change across the Bay Area and throughout California.

Our Approach

Harnessing the power of the Bay Area

Partnering with communities to address injustice

We work directly with our communities through our free legal service clinics, and partner with grassroots groups and community partners, to identify and address patterns of abuse and inequality.

Developing a network of pro bono attorneys and volunteers

We train and support over 1,600 attorneys, paralegals, law clerks, and interpreters who represent clients, research legal issues, and advocate passionately for meaningful and lasting change.

Leveraging legal resources for systemic change

We amplify our communities’ calls for justice through class action litigation, reports, and legislative and policy campaigns, to prevent future harm and to build affirmatively equitable systems.
