A Good Hire: Resources for Finding Undiscovered Talent is the public education campaign developed for the Cultivating Fair Chance Employment project administered by the Lawyers’ Committee to reach out to hiring managers in Alameda County. A Good Hire builds on the idea that workers with an arrest or conviction record may be undiscovered talent who could greatly benefit the local economy.
Meredith Desautels is a staff attorney with the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights of the San Francisco Bay Area. She directs the Second Chance Legal Clinic, a program that provides free legal services to people with past arrest or conviction records to help them overcome barriers to successful community reintegration.
Mike Hannigan is the co-owner and president of Give Something Back Office Supplies based in Oakland. The company was founded in 1991 and modeled on Newman’s Own food company. Hannigan continues to hire people who have an arrest or conviction record.
