Raya Steier joined Lawyers’ Committee in August 2022 as the Communications Manager. Prior to joining LCCRSF, Raya worked in municipal and state electoral politics, serving as campaign staff to San Francisco Public Defender Mano Raju and California Democratic Party Vice-Chair David Campos among others. In 2020, Raya led the campaign to pass San Francisco ballot measure Prop I that taxed the wealthy to generate hundreds of millions of dollars in revenue for COVID rent relief & affordable housing. They obtained degrees in law from UC Davis School of Law and O.P. Jindal University, India.

Raya was raised in Calcutta, India. They moved to the US in 2017. They are fluent in Hindi, Bengali, Urdu & English.
