Raya Steier joined Lawyers’ Committee in August 2022 as the Communications Manager. Prior to joining Lawyers’ Committee, Raya worked in municipal and state electoral politics, serving as campaign staff to San Francisco Public Defender Mano Raju and California Democratic Party Vice-Chair David Campos among other progressive candidates. In 2020, Raya ran the Prop I ballot measure campaign to tax the rich in San Francisco, defeating a $5 million corporate-backed opposition campaign. Raya’s Prop I measure generates hundreds of millions of dollars in tax revenue for rent relief & affordable housing every year. They obtained a degree in law from UC Davis.

Raya was born and raised in Singapore and Calcutta, India. They are fluent in Bengali, Hindi, Urdu & English.
